What is Thinsulate technology and where does it come from?
Thinsulate was developed and patented by the 3M Corporation from the USA. It is a non-woven fabric made from a polymer blend that offers very good thermal insulation. At the same time, moisture such as sweat can still escape. This makes Thinsulate an excellent lining material for our knitted gloves. A small Thinsulate woven label is sewn onto the gloves as a reminder.
Why is Thinsulate so special?
With a diameter of around 15 microns, Thinsulate is around ten times smaller than conventional synthetic fibres. For this reason, these fibers can be processed with a very high density. This narrow structure reduces the heat flow between the individual fibers. This means that body heat escapes only slightly and your hands stay warm even when the temperature is significantly below zero.
